L'art et le peuple / Victor Hugo

L'ART ET LE PEUPLE

I

L'art, c'est la gloire et la joie.
Dans la tempête il flamboie ;
Il éclaire le ciel bleu.
L'art, splendeur universelle,
Au front du peuple étincelle,
Comme l'astre au front de Dieu.

L'art est un champ magnifique
Qui plaît au coeur pacifique,
Que la cité dit aux bois,
Que l'homme dit à la femme,
Que toutes les voix de l'âme
Chantent en choeur à la fois !

L'art, c'est la pensée humaine
Qui va brisant toute chaîne !
L'art, c'est le doux conquérant !
A lui le Rhin et le Tibre !
Peuple esclave, il te fait libre ;
Peuple libre, il te fait grand !

II

Ô bonne France invincible,
Chante ta chanson paisible !
Chante, et regarde le ciel !
Ta voix joyeuse et profonde
Est l'espérance du monde,
Ô grand peuple fraternel !

Bon peuple, chante à l'aurore,
Quand le soir vient, chante encore !
Le travail fait la gaîté.
Ris du vieux siècle qui passe !
Chante l'amour à voix basse,
Et tout haut la liberté !

Chante la sainte Italie,
La Pologne ensevelie,
Naples qu'un sang pur rougit,
La Hongrie agonisante ...
Ô tyrans ! le peuple chante
Comme le lion rugit !

Victor Hugo

ART AND THE PEOPLE

I

Art is glory and joy;
In the storm it flares,
It lights up the blue sky.
Art, the universal splendor,
On people's faces it sparkles
Like the star on the face of God.

Art is a magnificent field
That pleases the peaceful heart
That the city says to the wood,
That man says to woman
That all the voices of the spirit
Sing together in one great choir

Art is human thought
That goes forth breaking every chain!
Art is the sweet conqueror!
For it the Rhine, the Tiber!
People enslaved, it sets you free;
Free people, it makes you great!

II

O good, invincible France,
Sing your peaceful song!
Sing, and look to the sky!
Your joyous and profound voice
Is the hope of the world,
O great brotherly people!

Good people, sing to the dawn!
And when night falls, sing still!
Work makes for gaiety.
Laughter of the old century which passes!
Sing love with lowered voice,
And out loud liberty!

Sing the holy Italy,
Poland enshrouded,
Naples that a pure blood reddens,
Hungary agonizing...-
O tyrants! the people change
As the lion roars!

Victor Hugo

SANAT VE HALK

I

Kıvançtır sanat, sevinç kaynağıdır,
Fırtınada alev alev tutuşur,
Işığı, aydınlatır mavi göğü,
Sanat görkemidir tüm insanlığın
Gözlerindeki kıvılcımdır halkın,
Tanrının alnındaki yıldız gibi.

Bir şarkıdır sanat, eşsiz bir ezgi!
Gönendirir barışçı yürekleri,
Erkekler kadınlarına fısıldar,
Ağaçlara doğru yükselir kentten,
Bütün insanlar hep bir ağızdan,
Uyum içinde o şarkıyı söyler.

Sanat; insanlığın düşüncesi!
Kırar prangaları, zincirleri,
O tatlı diliyle ele geçirir,
Onundur Tibet, onundur Ren nehri.
Sanat özgür kılar köle halkları,
Özgür halkları ise devleştirir.

II

Ey güzel ülkem, yenilmez Fransa!
O güzel ezgili şarkını söyle!
Şarkını söyle ve gökyüzüne bak!
Sevinç dolu, derinden gelen sesin,
Umududur bütün bu yeryüzünün
Kardeşliğin halkı, ey soylu halk!

Güzel halkım şarkını sabaha söyle!
Akşam olunca bir daha söyle!
Bilirsin ışıldar işleyen demir,
Aldırma geçmekte olan yüzyıla,
Aşkın şarkısını söyle yüksek sesle,
Ve özgürlüğün şarkısını haykır!

Şarkısını söyle kutsal İtalya’nın,
Toprağa gömülen şu Polonya’nın,
Yüreği kan ağlıyor Napoli’nin,
Macaristan can çekişiyor bak!
Dinleyin zorbalar, şarkı söylüyor halk
Aslanın kükreyişini dinleyin!
